Post operative instructions

• Take medications as prescribed.
• Avoid gargling/spitting/smoking/drinking with a straw for 24 hours.
• Do not disturb the area for 7 days.
• Swelling is usual in an extensive surgical procedure. It subsides in 3 or 4 days.
• Avoid strenuous activities for 1-2 days.

• AFTER 24 HOURS cleanse the area with warm salt water daily to remove food
debris and promote healing

Avoid chewing and drinking while numb to avoid injury to your gums. Numbness should
last 1-2 hours. Resume eating/drinking/brushing/flossing as normal when numbness
wears off.
Use warm salt water rinses twice a day to help aid gum recovery.
You may experience:
• Soreness on your gums due to laser therapy involved in the crown procedure. Gum
soreness should last no longer than a month. If it does not improve after a month,
please give us a call.
• Temperature (hot/cold) sensitivity after crown procedure. Please allow 2-4 weeks to
resolve.

  • No smoking for 24 hours and limit it for the duration of healing.

  • Avoid laying flat. Rest sitting upright and sleep with your head elevated.
  • Avoid strenuous physical activity for 24-48 hours.
  • Take semi-solid food for the first 48 hours.
  • Avoid hot, hard or spicy foods and alcohol.
  • Avoid area when chewing.
  • Rinse gently with warm salt water rinses starting the next day to clear debris.
  • Brush adjacent teeth gently.
  • If bone grafting material was placed you may notice small sand like particles.
  • Swelling is normal in extensive surgical procedures. It usually subsides in 3-4 days.
  • If you experience difficulty breathing, swelling of the face or tongue or difficulty swallowing call
    the office and head to the nearest ER immediately.

Do not remove your dentures, leave them in overnight and we will assist you in removing them
at your appointment tomorrow
